Spain: Government drives new decrees to face housing crisis
After days of protests and mobilizations in the Puerta del Sol in the case of Maricarren, the Government adopted two housing decrees that include the extension of protection against certain evictions until 2030, the regulation of seasonal and room rentals, and measures to stop the speculative purchase of housing by so-called "vulture funds" until 2028. In addition, there is an automatic renewal of some rental contracts and other measures in favour of tenants. Now, the decrees must be validated by Congress in a plenary session.
