The Swiss voters largely ruled out a proposal to tighten the policy of neutrality that the country has maintained since 1848. The initiative, supported by a right-wing populist party, sought to limit the Government in joining the sanctions against countries in conflict and to ban cooperation with military alliances such as NATO, unless the country was attacked.
