Christa Pike, the first woman to receive the death penalty in Tennessee in 200 years, survived the first two doses of the lethal injection that were given to her during her execution on the night of 30 September, said Luke Ihnen, the deputy federal public defender of her defence team. The state of Tennessee suspended the executions scheduled for the rest of the year.
