Spain: the death of an elderly woman whose evictions from her home sparked protests and trade unions calling for a general strike.

A tenants ' union in Spain announced Wednesday, the death of Marycarmen Abascal, a 87-year-old woman, who was forced to evacuate her home in Madrid on 23 September. Its evacuation sparked major protests, bringing thousands of people to the streets to protest against the housing crisis in Spain. The main Spanish trade unions called for Wednesday to organize a public strike on 11 November next, in a step aimed at increasing pressure on the Government to address the housing crisis and rising rent prices.
