Teenagers close hundreds of schools... What fuels student protests in France?

During the past few days, high school students in France have emerged in a wave of blatant protests, during which they imposed the closure of hundreds of educational institutions to lobby in order to respond to their demands. The protests led to violent confrontations with the police and turned into a political and security crisis in which the parties shared accusations. The Government stated that the claimant might be legitimate, but that violence was not, and accused the radical left of fuelling the situation. In contrast, some police officers were accused of using excessive force against demonstrators who were still legally minors.
