The European Union fails to establish a settlement to lift penalties for two businessmen from Russia.

The European Union continues its negotiations on the proposed settlement for the lifting of sanctions for two Russian businessmen, under an initial agreement to remove their names from the black list of clusters, in a settlement allowing for the extension of the sanctions imposed on some 3,000 persons and entities on the background of the war in Ukraine.

An ongoing European attempt to find a settlement to lift penalties for two businessmen from Russia.

The European Union States failed to conclude a final agreement to lift the penalties for Russian Osmanov and Mikhail Friedman, following Latvia ' s objection at the last moment. Diplomats stated that European Union ambassadors would meet again today in an effort to reach agreement; the lifting of sanctions was part of a settlement aimed at extending the sanctions imposed on some 3,000 individuals and other entities against the background of the war in Ukraine.
