Between rent increases and housing shortages... The Spanish are in the streets.

Thousands walked out on Madrid this weekend, protesting the expulsion of an elderly woman from her home in which she lived throughout her life -- a fact that occurred earlier this week -- demanding greater protection for tenants. In the view of the demonstrators, the cost of living in cities is extremely high and is not commensurate with salary levels; Spain suffers from a lack of public housing, while rents rose as a result of increased demand, including that associated with the tourism sector.
