Elections in Brazil. Lola bets on his social achievements to gain a new state.

The first round of presidential elections in Brazil will take place on 4 October. The outgoing President, Luis Inácio Lula da Silva, seeks a fourth and final mandate. In 2022, the fight against hunger and poverty had made it one of its most visible electoral promises. A promise appears to have been fulfilled, with some 9 million people out of poverty between 2023 and 2024, thanks to his Government ' s social and economic programmes. North-East Brazil recorded the largest annual decline in poverty rates. Does the decline in poverty in this region help it to strengthen its position in opinion polls after four years?
