Pope Leo XIV lands in Uruguayan territory and thus begins his apostolic tour of South America
Less than a month after being operated by lung cancer, León XIV begins one of the most challenging pastoral visits for a Pontiff, a 12-day tour that will also take him to Argentina and Peru, his second home. The Pope is expected to meet with Uruguayan President Yamandu Orsi on 6 November, before visiting the Metropolitan Cathedral of Montevideo.
