National group made a historic breakthrough in France by obtaining enough seats to form for the first time a parliamentary group in the Senate. After the senatorial elections of 2026, the party of Jordan Bardella and Marine Le Pen, together with their allies of the UDR, reached at least 14 senators, exceeding the minimum required to form their own group.
The extreme right-wing National Group (RN) party of Marine Le Pen and its allies got enough seats in the French Senate to form a parliamentary group in the upper chamber for the first time in the party's history. RN won 14 seats out of a total of 348 on Sunday. Half of the Senate is elected by indirect vote every three years and the members of this chamber, dominated by the right, are in office for six years.
