New offensive in Ethiopia: Army takes control of Mekele
The war in northern Ethiopia is again intensifying. Ethiopian federal forces and allied militias resumed control of Mekele, the capital of the Tigré region, after the Tigré Liberation Front (TPLF) announced its withdrawal from the city. The offensive takes place after the collapse of the Pretoria peace agreement of 2022 and revives the fear of a new conflict on a large scale.
