Putin states that Europe remains dependent on Russian gas despite EU attempts to cut it

The Russian President said that "Europe continues to receive liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia," despite the sanctions imposed by the European Union in response to the invasion of Ukraine. According to Putin, supplies account for 20% of the European hydrocarbon market, although it did not specify the routes through which the fuel arrives after the damage suffered by the Nord Stream pipelines in 2022. The President also held Europe responsible for its current economic difficulties in trying to reduce its energy dependence on Moscow.

After four years of the sabotage of Nord Stream, the consequences still persist

This is one of the most shocking acts of sabotage since World War II. On the night of 26 September 2022, three of the four North Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 pipelines exploded at the bottom of the Baltic Sea, releasing about 465,000 metric tons of methane into the atmosphere. The attack put an end to a strategic energy link between Russia and Germany. Four years later, our correspondents Anne Maillet and Nick Holdsworth go through the consequences that still persist.
