In India, nearly 16 women die every day because of dowry-related violence and harassment, which has been banned for nearly seven decades. The dowry, which involves transferring property from the bride's family to the groom's family in exchange for marriage, is part of a society marked by strong gender inequalities, where the birth of a girl is still often perceived as a disadvantage.
