Mauritania: Civil society demands adoption of Karama law
In Mauritania, civil society is mobilizing to implement the so-called Karama law, a law designed to protect women from sexual violence and crimes. It had been discussed in the Council of Ministers several years ago, but never adopted by the National Assembly, in particular because of differences on certain issues, some of its provisions and their conformity with the sharia.
