The three parties forming the outgoing government coalition in Morocco dominated the legislative elections of Wednesday, 23 September, but a turnout of 38%, at the lowest level in nearly 20 years, and an increase of Islamists. In December 2020, under the Abraham Agreements, Morocco resumed relations with Israel, which had been interrupted since the second intifada. In return, Trump recognized Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara. In 2021, Royal Air Maroc opened the direct flight Casablanca- Tel Aviv, suspended following the Hamas attack in 2023. Despite the war in Gaza, relations made progress, and on 17 September both countries agreed to raise them to the level of embassies.
As live music becomes central to Casablanca’s cultural brand, musicians remain caught between expanding opportunities and deteriorating working conditions.
