Iraq after US withdrawal. United States: What future awaits the country?
The United States has withdrawn its last troops from Iraq, ending the military mission that began in 2014 to combat the Islamic State, following the 2003 invasion and years of intervention. Although Washington will maintain support in training and intelligence, the Iraqi Government now assumes the primary responsibility for the security of the country.
