France is strengthening its military cooperation with Madagascar. On a visit to Antananarivo, Catherine Vautrin, the French Minister of the Army, announced a drone donation to the Malagasy army, on the background of the rapprochement between the Great Island and Moscow.
Madagascar commemorated this Friday the first anniversary of the Gen Z uprising. On 25 September 2025, thousands of young people had protested in Antananarivo against water and electricity cuts. The repression had killed at least 22 people, according to the UN. A year later, it was the military that organized the commemorations, in which some of the youth chose not to participate. One year after the discovery in Iran of five Boeing 777 bearing Madagascar's administrative record, the Malagasy judiciary opened the trial of 33 defendants on Tuesday, 22 September. They are charged with charges ranging from passive corruption to the violation of national sovereignty.
