One more step towards the total normalization of relations between Israel and Morocco. The Hebrew state and the darling kingdom announced the opening of two embassies. Both countries had normalized their diplomatic relations in December 2020 under the Abraham Accords.
In December 2020, under the Abraham Agreements, Morocco resumed relations with Israel, which had been interrupted since the second intifada. In return, Trump recognized Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara. In 2021, Royal Air Maroc opened the direct flight Casablanca- Tel Aviv, suspended following the Hamas attack in 2023. Despite the war in Gaza, relations made progress, and on 17 September both countries agreed to raise them to the level of embassies.
Israel and Morocco will open embassies in their respective countries, announced on Wednesday the Israeli Foreign Ministry, after a meeting between the two heads of diplomacy, under American auspices. Both countries had normalized their diplomatic relations in December 2020 under the Abraham Accords, a process between Israel and several Arab countries, supported by Washington.
