Under a strict law in Algeria: first death sentences in drug cases

The Criminal Court of the Algiers Council handed down death sentences for nine accused in cases of trafficking in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, in the first such sentence, based on Algerian anti-drug legislation. In a statement, the Algiers Council stated that, according to the German news agency, three accused were present and six others in absentia.
